Day 2-C: The town of Forks, La Push, and neighboring beaches

From the Hoh area we headed west thru the town of Forks, made famous by the Twilight  series, but actually just an old logging town. Not really anything special there but the town is capitalizing on the tourism appeal.

Drove out to La Push which is an Indian harbor area on the Quileute River. Lots and lots of fireworks shops and casinos. It's part of the Quileute Indian reservation and is so pitiful. Just south of La Push is First Beach which sometimes had seals but we didn't see any. :(

Not much else there so we headed on down to Second Beach, which was great!  Hiked the .7 mile trail thru more rain forest to get to the beach. You can backpack in to campsites right on the beach, which would be awesome to do.

This was in a tree along the trail.

The pics below are all of Second Beach.

On the beach we saw a pair of bald eagles sitting on a big rock. While I was trying to get a close up pic of them, they flew off to a tree on a big sea stack.

More panaramas...

After walking 2-3 miles on the beach we hiked back to the car and headed north of La Push to Rialto Beach, hoping to see seals, but no luck again. I think this is where Allie and her group started their 3 day backpack on the beach.  Ready to get to a campsite for the night, we decided not to hike to "Hole-in-the-Wall" which is a 1.25 mile hike north of Rialto.
