Day 3-A: Thursday 7/11/13 Lake Ozette Area

IAs usual I did not sleep well that first night in the tent, having to get up twice during the night to go to bathroom (note to self...don't drink a beer close to bedtime when camping!) We got up around 6 am and fixed coffee with our little stove.  We were on the trail by 7 am.     We did the 3.4 mile Cape Alava Trail through the old growth rain forest along the board walks. The following pics show the views at the end of the trail where you pop out on the beach at Cape Alava.

Then we hiked 3.0 miles down the beach toward Sand Point.  The first part of the beach was very rocky and really hard to walk on. The next part of the beach required us to walk over this flat rocky area covered with algae and plants. It reminded me of being on another planet. See the pics below.

The last part of the beach hike was over deep piles of soft sand and small rocks so that your feet sunk down with each step.

Finally we reached Sand Point. There was a big grass covered hill that we climbed to get a great view of the area. It was also a great place for a late breakfast. It was about 50 feet above the beach.

Then we walked the 3 miles of the Sand Point trail, again on a boardwalk, back to the trailhead to complete the triangle hike. This same hike was the end hike of allie's 3 day beach hike.  We finished the hike around noon so we were on the trail about 5 hours.
